How to Use ChatGPT as a DM for a Solo Game of Dungeons and Dragons

1. First, you will need to have a basic understanding of the Dungeons and Dragons rules and gameplay mechanics. This will include knowledge of character creation, combat rules, and how to roll dice.

2. Once you are familiar with the rules, open a messaging platform such as Discord or Facebook Messenger, and create a private chat with ChatGPT.

3. Start by introducing your character to ChatGPT and providing any necessary backstory information. For example, you might say, "Hi, I'm playing a human rogue named Jack who grew up on the streets of Waterdeep."

4. Ask ChatGPT to describe your current surroundings or situation. For example, you might say, "What do I see when I look around this room?" or "What is my next objective?"

5. Based on ChatGPT's response, describe what actions your character wants to take, such as exploring a room, picking a lock, or attacking an enemy.

6. Ask ChatGPT to roll dice when necessary to determine the outcome of actions. For example, you might say, "I want to try to pick the lock on this chest. Can you roll a Dexterity check for me?"

7. Based on the dice roll, ChatGPT will describe the outcome of your action. For example, "You successfully pick the lock and find a small pouch of gold inside."

8. Continue to interact with ChatGPT in this way, describing your actions and asking for dice rolls as necessary.

9. Remember to use your character's skills and abilities to your advantage. For example, if your character is particularly stealthy, you might want to try sneaking past enemies rather than fighting them head-on.

10. Have fun! Solo games can be a great way to explore a world of your own creation and develop your storytelling skills.

Haunted Forest Encounter Generator

They walk through the darkening forest. The bare branches are reaching towards them as they scramble through. The wind whistles through the trees and they hear faint words being spoken. They come to a bare patch of ground that is clear of bushes and brambles. Across the clearing is a crumpling ruin that looks quite ancient. Long-forgotten gods crumble at the entrance and the name of a long dead emperor is etched above the door. When they enter they hear scratching sounds. The walls are covered in unknown languages that could be invitations or warnings. Deeper into the winding ruins the scratching sounds become louder. Long dead humans begin to scramble toward them. The skin has fallen from their faces, their bodies are decaying, and they are covered in tattered shrouds. The monsters mouth soundless screams and begin to give chase.  Simply saying a forest is haunted is not enough. A DM must give details that pull their players into the scene so that they can picture smelling the tre...

Cults & Cultists Generator

In the derelict catacombs beneath the bustling city, a group of the city’s most elite meets. They are unidentifiable because each wears a velvet robe with a hood that descends over their faces. A hunched figure stands at the front. He sits atop the largest tomb openly disrespecting the dead that sleeps there. He addresses his congregation with a nasal voice. “You have been summoned here to discuss our current progress. There has not been enough violence to even consider you a part of this holy group. People in the streets outright defy the laws we have set forth. Even as you sit there, voices speak to me and those voices want the blood of the non-believers. You are to get rid of any monuments to the false gods that you come across. You will identify yourself to your fellow congregation by wearing a lily in your hair or on your lapel. If you do not follow these orders, woe is to you. We are here to end all who refuse to see that I alone am god.” The crypts are dark but as the old man sp...
